This work was created as a way to return to free thinking, linking today’s information overflow with the situation in which constellations, an ambiguous communication tool, were invented for the myriad stars. The work was included in a series of video works shown at the Nagano Prefectural Art Museum.

The work was intended to train viewers to think about their own ways of confronting the vast amount of data that continues to be archived today, rather than to change the way they approach the data.

For the video, I used topographical data from the area around the Nagano Prefectural Museum of Art published by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) and actual observation data on the location of fixed stars. By deriving from pairs of constellations from various cultures and creating previously unseen connections between stars, and by looking at constellations from a perspective outside of the earth, we can see that constellations are only from our perspective on earth.
