This is Marco Poro House」と声高に言う。頭上の石碑には「QUI FURONO LE CASE DI MARCO POLO（ここにマルコ・ポーロの家があった）/CHE VIAGGIÒ LE PIÙ LONTANE REGIONI DELL’ASIA E LE DESCRISSE（彼はアジアの最も遠い地域まで旅し、それを記録した）」とあり、私たちはかつてマルコ・ポーロの邸宅があった場所に建てられた劇場で制作をしていたことを知る。数日眺めていると、ゴンドラに乗る西洋人はマルコ・ポーロを偉人として沸き立つのに対し、我々を含むアジア人の場合は際立った反応をしないことに気づく。その様子を毎日休憩の度に録音した。この運河を通るゴンドラの乗客を見て、マルコ・ポーロがアジアを見つけた時、世界はこんな反応だったのかしら、などと考えていた。
