World Operator

We cannot exchange but neither can we stop exchanging

With the theme of the world’s irreducible, non-interchangeable nature, the artist becomes a “world operator,” modeled after a telephone switchboard operator, and communicates in real time with people across the globe during the performance. Over two performances, the artist connected with a total of fifteen individuals, including an Indonesian artist in a city engulfed in riots and fire, a young elementary school girl living in Fukushima Prefecture, a staff member from the Okuma Town Office in Fukushima, and a filmmaker attending a festival in the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).
A theatre piece about the impossibility of mutual understanding.
