Vocalise

Split the performance

The artist’s vocalise, performed in an anechoic chamber (NTT ICC), is transmitted to and played back through speakers installed in a reverberation chamber at a separate location (ONO SOKKI Co., Ltd.). The artist is unable to hear the final sound. Likewise, the engineer in the reverberation chamber can only hear the artist’s voice through the speakers. The audience experiences video footage from both locations, accompanied by the sound recorded in the reverberation chamber. What, then, do we recognize as a “performance”?
