Creative Commons as a Distributed Archive
An audio work produced using only the artist’s voice for the 22.2-channel multidimensional sound format. Although the format is an international standard and freely available, the production environment required to work with it was far beyond the reach of ordinary people. With a touch of defiance, I began creating a 22.2-channel piece on my own, outside of institutional settings. I would like to note that the work was made possible thanks to the immense mental and physical support of those listed in the credits.
The master data of this work is released under a Creative Commons license, and has been used for research, educational, and other non-profit purposes. By distributing the work, I hoped that it would continue to be archived somewhere even after my death. It was also my own form of antithesis to the fact that, although the format was open to everyone, access to it required a privileged environment.
For exhibitions, the fact that the piece conforms to an international standard made it possible to install it in spaces ranging from closed environments like anechoic chambers to large spaces such as concert halls, allowing the scale to be adjusted freely.
